We Are Scientists is a New York-based rock band that formed in Berkeley, California in the year 2000. Originally formed of Keith Murray on drums, Chris Cain playing bass guitar and Scott Lamb providing vocals and guitar, before Michael Tapper became drummer and Keith became vocalist and guitarist. The band's breakthrough success came with their second album With Love and Squalor which sold 100,000 copies in the first 6 months. Their second success was with Brain Thrust Mastery which charted at 11 in the UK album chart, with two top 40 singles "After Hours" and "Chick Lit". They are currently promoting the release of their fourth album, Barbara, as well as starring in their own television short Steve Wants His Money.

Two Door Cinema Club are 3 people with the help of technology and a thirst for anything quirky. If you were to pose the question, “Where do Two Door Cinema Club live?” and someone was to answer, “Why, Bangor!” That someone would only be 66.67% correct because Two Door Cinema Club are a Bangor/Donaghadee based electro pop band. An obvious absence in the rhythm department is humbly filled by an unadulterated Macintosh and the electronic thump from the fourth imperceptible member goes hand in hand with the electro/pop direction. Their music has been loosely compared to the likes of Death Cab for Cutie and Broken Social Scene but without a definitive capacity to be pigeon-holed. Melodic vocals, which hail from all three members of the outfit, infuse with guitar riffs that have been described as “oceanic” and rhythm described as “pulsing”. This weeks ROTW ('Record of the Week') comes from Delphic, who are an alternative dance band from Marple Bridge, near Stockport, United Kingdom. They released the single "Counterpoint" in April 2009. In November 2009 they made their first TV appearance appearing on Later... with Jools Holland playing "Doubt" and "Halcyon". Delphic are one of the 15 shortlisted music acts for the BBC Sound of 2010. As of the 6th January 2010, Delphic were placed Third on BBC Sound of 2010.

Conan O'Brien released a statement Tuesday afternoon regarding NBC's late-night situation, and his place in it.

People of Earth:

In the last few days, I’ve been getting a lot of sympathy calls, and I want to start by making it clear that no one should waste a second feeling sorry for me. For 17 years, I’ve been getting paid to do what I love most and, in a world with real problems, I’ve been absurdly lucky. That said, I’ve been suddenly put in a very public predicament and my bosses are demanding an immediate decision.

Six years ago, I signed a contract with NBC to take over The Tonight Show in June of 2009. Like a lot of us, I grew up watching Johnny Carson every night and the chance to one day sit in that chair has meant everything to me. I worked long and hard to get that opportunity, passed up far more lucrative offers, and since 2004 I have spent literally hundreds of hours thinking of ways to extend the franchise long into the future. It was my mistaken belief that, like my predecessor, I would have the benefit of some time and, just as important, some degree of ratings support from the prime-time schedule. Building a lasting audience at 11:30 is impossible without both.

But sadly, we were never given that chance. After only seven months, with my Tonight Show in its infancy, NBC has decided to react to their terrible difficulties in prime-time by making a change in their long-established late night schedule.

Last Thursday, NBC executives told me they intended to move the Tonight Show to 12:05 to accommodate the Jay Leno Show at 11:35. For 60 years the Tonight Show has aired immediately following the late local news. I sincerely believe that delaying the Tonight Show into the next day to accommodate another comedy program will seriously damage what I consider to be the greatest franchise in the history of broadcasting. The Tonight Show at 12:05 simply isn’t the Tonight Show. Also, if I accept this move I will be knocking the Late Night show, which I inherited from David Letterman and passed on to Jimmy Fallon, out of its long-held time slot. That would hurt the other NBC franchise that I love, and it would be unfair to Jimmy.

So it has come to this: I cannot express in words how much I enjoy hosting this program and what an enormous personal disappointment it is for me to consider losing it. My staff and I have worked unbelievably hard and we are very proud of our contribution to the legacy of The Tonight Show. But I cannot participate in what I honestly believe is its destruction. Some people will make the argument that with DVRs and the Internet a time slot doesn’t matter. But with the Tonight Show, I believe nothing could matter more.

There has been speculation about my going to another network but, to set the record straight, I currently have no other offer and honestly have no idea what happens next. My hope is that NBC and I can resolve this quickly so that my staff, crew, and I can do a show we can be proud of, for a company that values our work.

NBC May Be Considering Reinstating Leno on ‘Tonight Show’

NBC executives held discussions with both Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien Thursday about the future of the network’s late-night lineup. And while executives said that no final decision has been made, they did not deny that the network is considering moves that could include returning Mr. Leno to his old job as host of “The Tonight Show.”

NBC executives said a decision would definitely not be announced Thursday but did not deny a report posted by the website TMZ that NBC was considering making the switch and replacing Mr. O’Brien at “Tonight” with Mr. Leno.

TMZ reported that NBC would make the move soon to take advantage of the natural break in its schedule when it covers the Winter Olympics next month.

The late-night discussions at NBC are directly related to pressure that has been brought on NBC by its affiliated stations, which have seen ratings for their 11 p.m. local newscasts plummet this television season because of much-weakened lead-in audiences from the network in the 10 p.m. hour.

That hour has been filled by Mr. Leno’s new prime-time show. NBC has said for months that Mr. Leno’s ratings were not out of line with what they had promised to advertisers but they acknowledged that they had underestimated the negative impact on the affiliated stations.

Mr. O’Brien, meanwhile, has seen his own ratings suffer. He has trailed the CBS late-night star David Letterman by about 2 million viewers a night – Mr. Leno had easily been the winner in that time period previously.

If Mr. Leno does return to his old 11:35 p.m. there is some question about what will happen with Mr. O’Brien. He had been recruited by other networks in the past but how his contract might be resolved and how his experience at “Tonight” might affect his future prospects are unknown factors.

Earlier Thursday, NBC executives denied a rumor that appeared on a Web site that the network had made a decision to cancel Mr. Leno’s 10 p.m. program. But at the same time the network acknowledged that low ratings for the show had become a serious problem for NBC’s affiliated stations.

In a statement, NBC said, “Jay Leno is one of the most compelling entertainers in the world today. As we have said all along, Jay’s show has performed exactly as we anticipated on the network. It has, however, presented some issues for our affiliates. Both Jay and the show are committed to working closely with them to find ways to improve the performance.”

All-star lineup announced for Meteors 2010 ....

The presenter, performers and nominees for the Meteor Ireland Music Awards 2010 have been announced.

This year's event, which will be hosted by television presenter Amanda Byram, will see a host of stars come together to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the awards.

Acts due to perform at the event, which will be staged in the RDS in Dublin on Friday 19 February, include Snow Patrol, Westlife, The Script, Florence and the Machine, Paulo Nutini, The Coronas and Pixie Lott.

Irish music fans will be able to vote in nine categories for the awards; Best Irish Band, Best Irish Male, Best Irish Female, Best Irish Pop Act, Best Irish Album, Best Irish Live Performance, Best National DJ, Best Regional DJ (KC & Lenny Red FM) and Most Promising Artist for 2010.

In the running for the Best Irish Band award are Bell X1, The Coronas, Delorentos, Snow Patrol and U2.

The Best Irish Male nominees are Colin Devlin, Jerry Fish, Jack L, Christy Moore and Mundy.

Up for the Best Irish Female award are Wallis Bird, Julie Feeney, Valerie Francis, Laura Izibor and Dolores O'Riordan.

The nominees for Best Irish Pop Act are Delorentos, Laura Izibor, The Blizzards, The Script and Westlife.

Nominated in the Best Irish Album category are 'Blue Lights on the Runway' by Bell X1, 'Tony Was An Ex-Con' by The Coronas, 'The Duckworth Lewis Method' by The Duckworth Lewis Method, 'Up To Now' by Snow Patrol and 'No Line On The Horizon' by U2.

In contention for the Best International Band Award are Black Eyed Peas, Florence and the Machine, Green Day, Kasabian and Muse.

The nominees for Best National Radio DJ are Damien Farrelly (2FM), Larry Gogan (2FM), Ian Dempsey (Today FM), Dan Hegarty (2FM), Ray Foley (Today FM) and Tony Fenton (Today FM).

The Meteor Ireland Music Awards will be aired by RTÉ Two on Sunday 21 February.

Jonathan Ross has announced he is leaving the BBC, after 13 years working for the corporation.
Ross, 49, who is the BBC's highest paid star, said in a statement he had decided not to renegotiate his contract when it ends in July.
The presenter added his decision to leave was not "financially motivated".
In 2008, the controversial host was suspended for making a series of phone calls to actor Andrew Sachs on Russell Brand's Radio 2 show.

Speaking outside his home to reporters, Ross said: "It's probably not a bad time for me to move on - and it's probably not a bad time for the BBC, either.
"I've got six months left, I'm hoping to make the best shows of my career with them."
One of the biggest names at the BBC, Ross currently hosts his own Friday night chat show, Radio 2 show and a film review programme.
The announcement comes a day after it was revealed that Graham Norton had signed a two-year deal with the corporation prompting newspaper speculation that he would take over Ross's Friday night slot on BBC One.
But BBC creative director Alan Yentob said it was "too premature" to make such decisions.

It was reported that Ross's contract, which secured his services for the three years up to July 2010, was worth £18m.
The BBC has never confirmed that amount, but it was expected that Ross would be asked to accept a pay cut, following the lead of other big stars, such as Bruce Forsyth and Chris Moyles.
"Although I have had a wonderful time working for the BBC, and am very proud of the shows I have made while there, over the last two weeks I have decided not to re-negotiate when my current contract comes to an end," Ross said. "While there, I have worked with some of the nicest and most talented people in the industry and had the opportunity to interview some of the biggest stars in the world, and am grateful to the BBC for such a marvellous experience.

Ross has thanked fans posting on micro-blogging site Twitter, "Thanks for all the kind words about my decision. I feel sad that I can't keep making the shows so many of you love!"

The Hangover 2 news...

About three weeks ago, director Todd Phillips confirmed that he was working on the script for “The Hangover” sequel, revealing that he will bring back the main characters, but will place in them in a location other than Las Vegas.

Chud has now learned that the “other location” may actually end up being Thailand. Phillips was previously working on the sequel to “Old School” and was planning to use Thailand as the setting for that movie. Since “Old School Dos” didn’t work out, sources say that he is now planning to use the already-written jokes for “Hangover 2.”

No word on what kind of trouble Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis will get into. But since Thailand can be a less than Kosher place, we can probably expect to see the dark side of the Thai sex tourism.

TEEN drama Skins roars back on to our screens next month - and promises more sex, drugs and dance music.

This is the first picture of the new E4 series, which features nine hard-living teenage friends in Bristol.

The series will also include a cameo from singer Will Young.

But don't get too comfy with the cast - producers are planning to change it for a third time for a fifth series in 2011.

Creator Bryan Elsley said: "These stories try to go to the heart of what it means to be young today."

Christmas came early for some revellers last night as Bono, Glen Hansard, Damien Rice and Mundy came together to for a memorable busk on Grafton St.

The performance, which lasted approximately one hour, was watched by a handful of lucky passer-bys.

Over the course of the performance they went through some well-known covers like 'Knocking On Heaven's Door' 'Stand By Me' and Mic Christopher's 'Heyday'.

Miike Snow formed in 2007 in Stockholm, Sweden.

Band members Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg were childhood friends who spent time playing in bands and working on various projects in studios throughout Gothenburg. After separate moves to Stockholm they reunited in 2000. Then In 2004, whilst working on writing a pop album for someone else, the pair met the third band member, American songwriter Andrew Wyatt.

They have had success as producers and songwriters. They have worked with artists such as Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Kelis and won a Grammy for Best dance recording for the track "Toxic" by Britney Spears.

The single "This Momentary" was released on 31 August 2009 through Kitsuné. The music video for "This Momentary" has been nominated for three UK Music Video Awards, including Best Cinematography, Best Editing and Best Telecine. Pat's new show since leaving 'The Late Late Show' is call 'Fontline' some show about politicians and lets just say a audience member decided it was time to take a stand against Pat and he did ! Most of the things he said were true and I think it's time for Pat to take a leave ?

This weeks Xfactor is shaping up to be a good one. It's 'Big Band' week and personally one of my favourite weeks.

With Michael Buble and Westlife making an appearance, Xfactor just got a whole lot better, but today The Sun newspaper is reporting; Cheryl Cole wants to snog judge Dannii Minogue!

The Girls Aloud singer made the shock admission during a live web chat for My Space Music last night.

In social experiment backed by Volkswagon, stairs to a subway entrance in Stockholm, Sweden were retrofitted to play the notes of a piano with each step taken.

According to the video (above) the musical stairwell led to 66% more people than normal to climb the stairs instead of coasting up the escalator.

US talk show host David Letterman was targeted in a £1MILLION blackmail plot after he had sex with female colleagues - one of whom has

The presenter of the popular Late Show admitted on the programme last night he had affairs with staff members and had been hit by the extortion attempt. Letterman's alleged blackmailer Robert Halderman, a producer who works on the same US network CBS, demanded the huge sum to keep quiet about the relationships.

sources say she is "mortified" Halderman used her relationship with Letterman to blackmail him.

It is claimed she had an affair with the chat show host before he was married. But he was living with his now-wife Regina Lasko at the time.

Birkitt, who started as an intern in the show in 1996 is well known to regulars and still works there.

Halderman is reported to be short of money and decided to target Letterman.

But the producer was arrested yesterday after Letterman contacted police who told him to hand over a phony cheque.

The presenter — who was interviewing Woody Harrelson and Kim Kardashian last night — said it was a "bizarre experience" that left him feeling disturbed and menaced.

Letterman, 62, married his girlfriend of 23-years Lasko last March and the couple have one son together.
